The décor at rue de Seine is an eclectic mix of the classics and the contemporary. The flat is decorated with bright colors, warm textures, antique furniture, and contemporary art, and its 12-foot ceilings and original 19th century floor-to-ceiling windows mean that it’s unusually bright for a Paris apartment.  The striking marble floors throughout are original, as is the 19th century parquet ‘a l’anglaise’ in the bedrooms.  The flat is in the center of St Germain and the 6eme arrondissement, minutes from the arts galleries on rue de Seine, Cafe Flore, and the Jardins Luxembourg.

ABOUT ST GERMAIN

Stats

The entrée is a warm violet, featuring an 18th century chandelier, an 19th century marble table for your keys, and fabrics and wallpaper from Idarica Gazzoni, the notable interior designer from Milan.  The entrée opens directly into the elegant Salon, which is all about light. Exceedingly bright for a Parisian flat, the apartment is at an angle, and the Salon looks out over the Boulevard St-Germain.

The cook’s blue kitchen is open to the Salon and is designed to encourage merriment and chatter as you prepare meals.  It’s equipped for a simple breakfast for four – and for a dinner party for twelve. Elegant hand-painted cabinetry, black Zimbabwean stone countertops, and top-of-the-line Miele and Siemens appliances make for a chef’s kitchen that is also a pleasure for entertaining.

Comfy sofas and armchairs from British design star David Hicks in white and bright yellow contrast the Salon’s marble floors and its collection of fine photography, which features work by Malick Sibede, Taryn Simon, Saul Leiter, and Karin Lavale.

The Salon is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the sights of Paris.

The three bedrooms display an equal splash of color.  One is olive green, with a king sized bed, a large Beni Ouirane rug from Morocco, a striking bedside table from Kartell, original photography purchased down the street at one of the famed rue de Seine galleries, bespoke closets with green interiors, and an en-suite bathroom with handmade cement tiles from our friends Samuel and Caitlin’s Marrakesh-based Popham Design

The second bedroom is accented in a warm coral, with a queen sized bed, a 19th century bedside table, and a Louis XI bergere.  The bedroom opens up into a cheery red tiled en-suite bathroom, featuring a 19th century wooden mirror, Philippe Starck lighting, and a footed bathtub that has been hand-painted red to match the tiles.

The third bedroom is the most dramatic as it is painted in an extraordinary blueberry lacquer, accented by an elongated gold leafed mirror from the 19th century.  The blue room doubles as a study and TV room, and it features an iMac, a collection of art books, a 32” flat screen TV, and many striking pieces of art, including a large 18th century oil painting, a Tibetan thangka, and lithographs from China.

The bathrooms have been completely renovated throughout the apartment, featuring full-length towel heaters, 10-inch rain showers, and firm water pressure.  All three bedrooms have plenty of closet space and top-of-the-line bedding, including goose down duvets and pillows and 800-thread count Egyptian cotton linens. A crib can be supplied at no extra cost.
